  • Mentoring Conversation Instructions:

    1. Click on the blue circle to show the "African-American Male Graduation Speech" video to your mentee(s).

    2. After watching the video with your mentee(s), ask these questions to engage the young person(s) in a mentoring conversation with you:

    a) What academic honor did Deonte earn?

    b) What challenges did he have to overcome?

    c) How does his story inspire you?

    d) Do you think that it is possible for you to have the same kind of success in school that Deonte had? Why or why not?

    e) What will you have to do to have this kind of success in school? What will you have to change?

    f) What is the advantage of graduating high school with honors? (more opportunities - scholarships and college)

    g) Is it important to God that you excel academically? In Colossians 3:23 God says, "Whatever you do, work at with all your heart, as working for the Lord..." What does this verse mean?

    h) Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior?
